****  Notice of Gate Closures  ****

Aloha Homeowners,

Your Board of Directors has contracted with Pacific Painting & Re-Finishing to conduct repairs and painting of all three entrances to the community. This includes the Sign Monument, Gates Pillars, Phone Pillars, and fencing.

The work will be divided into three areas, completing one area at a time:
• The Island North Entrance (Maui Lani)
• The Island South Entrance (Onehee)
• The Bluffs Entrance (Onehee)

Work will start on Monday, January 25, 2010, at 8:00 a.m. at the Island North Entrance.

So the contractor can conduct repair and painting operations in a safe and timely manner, an entrance OR an exit gate may be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Traffic cones, barriers, and/or signs will be used to assist the residents with the safe and proper access or exit during these times.

Safety, Safety, Safety………….
Please use extreme caution and have patience when using entrances where there is restricted access. You may have to yield to an oncoming vehicle. Contractor personnel safety and resident safety is of utmost importance to everyone.

To keep you informed, updated information will be sent via email, and placed on the IslandandBluffs.com website.

If you have any questions please contact Penny Munroe, Nai’a Properties, and she will be happy to assist you.

Thank you in advance for your careful attention to this situation.

Your Board of Directors

Burial Mounds Within Our Community

It has come to the attention of the Board of Directors that some of our Island and Bluffs residents do not know about, or understand the significance of the two burial mounds in the Island community.

• At the North end of the Strada is a large burial mound, surrounded by a black aluminum fence.

• At the South end of the Strada, makai of the entry gates, is a large burial mound surrounded on three sides by a wall.

Members of our community have observed people exercising their dogs on the North burial mound area, and children playing war games on the South burial mound.
These Burial Mounds are designated as a sacred place; a burial site for the iwi, or bones, of the ancestors of native people who lived in this area generations ago.
The native Hawaiian people give great honor and reverence to the memories of their ancestors, much like many other ethnic groups do. The place of their burial is considered sacred, a place of reverence and peaceful reflection. In keeping with that tradition, we, the Board of Directors would ask that all residents respect this area by staying off of, and outside of the burial mounds.
Please be respectful of the traditions of the Native Hawaiian People and exercise "Pono".................do what is right.
